Tejashwi Yadav, wife Rajshree welcome baby boy in Kolkata; Lalu, Rabri reach ahead of delivery

Tejashwi Yadav, leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, announced the birth of his second child—a baby boy—on Tuesday morning. The child was born at a private hospital in Kolkata, where Tejashwi is currently with his wife, Rajshree Yadav.

The couple shared the news through a social media post along with the newborn’s photo. “Good Morning! The wait is finally over! So grateful, blessed and pleased to announce the arrival of our little boy. Jai Hanuman!” Tejashwi wrote. The couple had their first child, a daughter named Katyayani, in March 2023 during the Navratri festival.

Rajshree Yadav, formerly Rachel Godinho, and Tejashwi got married in December 2021 in a private ceremony. The two have known each other since their school days at Delhi Public School. Their daughter Katyayani is named after the sixth form of Goddess Durga.

RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi, and their daughter Misa Bharti reached Kolkata a day before the delivery to be with the family. The visit came amid internal family tensions, following the recent expulsion of Tejashwi’s elder brother, Tej Pratap Yadav, from the party.

Despite the ongoing developments, the family has received congratulatory messages from several political leaders across party lines. Among them, Trinamool MP Derek O’Brien extended his wishes to the Yadav family following the announcement.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited the hospital after receiving messages from Tejashwi in the early hours of the day. She said, “Last night, he messaged me at 6:14, then again at 6:16 am. I said, hmm, I’ll visit at 1 pm.” After the visit, she added, “I met Lalu Ji, his wife, Tejashwi’s wife, and the baby is good. Both the father and mother look wonderful.”

Mamata Banerjee stated that Tejashwi’s wife had been in West Bengal for the last nine months. She said she was aware of it and also mentioned that she was among the first to be informed about the birth. She said, “Today is Tuesday, Hanuman Ji’s day — and Hanuman Ji is our faith and strength. This baby is a blessing.” She also conveyed her happiness and wished peace and happiness for the family.

Tejashwi Yadav expressed gratitude to Mamata Banerjee, saying, “I am thankful to everyone and especially thankful to Didi. From the very first day, she was with us. Her support has always been there. She was like a local guardian to us. I had my daughter first; she is like Lakshmi to us.” The family has not issued any further statement.
